A Place to Belong is a video project I worked on for two classes during the fall of 2016 with my photo and advanced journalism classes. It is part of a package about the arts at Augustana. There was a story about theater graduates featured in The Mirror and the photos taken at Vespers 2016 for The Mirror were also part of this package.
Shi Almont, Kaylyn Dieter, and Maria Lavelle were also involved in the making of this video. Maria, who current studies graduate film at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, was our group director, and it was awesome to work with someone so passionate about making movies. I learned a lot from her. I helped with storyboarding the video, shot interviews, and was involved with editing.
This video was made for my Multimedia Storytelling class during the spring of 2016. It was one of my first solo projects and I was happy to be able to talk to Sydney for the chance to bring awareness to mental health.

This video was made for my Multimedia Storytelling class during the spring of 2016. I decided to focus on every college student's favorite location: the dining hall. And within that dining hall, every Augustana student has a favorite worker. Maybe it's Jane, who slides your card every day as you walk in the door. Some's favorite employee is Agnus, a woman in her 90s who is short and sassy. My favorite was Pam the omelet lady who always remembered exactly what I liked in my breakfast. But Bill, a dishwasher who walked around the dining hall on his breaks to tell everyone the knock-knock joke of the day is a campus-wide favorite. Learn more about the Ordal Dining Hall now!
While not the most orthodox video to feature on a portfolio, I edited this video after a trip in 2017 to attend the National College Media Convention. While my classmates and I learned a lot during the daily sessions, we also got to explore everything the city of Dallas has to offer. I feel it shows the importance of finding fun ways to be creative in your work. I truly had the time of my life in Dallas. Video and photos shot by multiple classmates and myself throughout the trip.
